What is modern day Breathwork?
For thousands of years, breath has been used as a gateway to presence and inner awareness. Ancient practices like pranayama, often rooted in yoga, offer powerful ways to cultivate stillness and discipline. Pranayama is a more passive practice, focusing on controlled, mindful breathing rather than active release and movement.
That being said, breathwork has evolved!
What I focus on is modern-day Breathwork: an active, connected breathing practice designed for today’s challenges. It goes beyond relaxation, helping release what’s held inside, process stuck emotions, restore clarity and direction, and so much more - all through the power of your breath. This practice can quiet a racing mind, ease anxiety, unlock energy, and open space to discover - or rediscover - something deeper within yourself.
It’s actually more than a practice; it’s a tool for living with greater ease, focus, and purpose, while offering a gentle, supportive way to work with whatever arises.
... and how does this work?
"The body often knows what the mind has yet to grasp." What does this mean? In today’s hectic, demanding, and fast-paced world, we tend to lead with the mind and the Ego, because that’s what society expects. Yet we come home tired, exhausted, unfulfilled, and uneasy. We may feel trapped. Why? Because we potentially worked against ourselves without even knowing it.
Modern day Breathwork opens a pathway to a deeper layer of ourselves, where wisdom and solutions reside, combined with the body’s innate power and willingness to do things differently, to move beyond old or outdated patterns. In this space, there is no need to rush, analyze, or push in any direction. The nervous system can reset, energy can shift, and emotions held in the body can move safely and without judgment. No outside voice directs this experience; the body leads, naturally guiding the process.
During sessions (which are 60-90 minutes of Breathwork), I primarily guide clients through Circular Breathing, which is a continuous, connected breathing pattern where each inhale flows smoothly into the exhale without pause. This method softens the grip of the thinking mind, awakens energy within, and invites the body to release what longs to be set free. During a session other techniques may also be introduced for an overall integration and wholesome experience.
